Ruffy Community Action Group

Next meeting  Tuesday 21/05/13, 7:30pm at Tablelands Community Centre

Everyone is welcome to attend, so we hope to see you all at the meeting!

N.B. start time will be 7:30 and we are trying a Tuesday (rather than Wednesday) hoping it may suit more people...

"More Community Events" was the cry from Soltice Night planning.

And so it was no surprise that the free "Community barbecue and night of Irish revelry" on Sat Feb 16th was really well attended, and very much enjoyed - great food, amazing music, lots of dancing for young and experienced and not so experienced.  It was especially good to see some new Ruffians enjoying the entertainment and meeting neighbours far and wide.  Special thanks must go to the band of top Irish musicians from Melbourne led by Paddy (of course!)

rcag planningmeal2012<<<< The Solstice Dinner was a fantastic evening, an opportunity to catch up socially and to participate in exploring visions for Ruffy into the future.

The Ruffy Community Action Group (RCAG) has been formed early in 2009 as a ‘Special Committee of Council’ under Section 86 of the Local Government Act, to support, coordinate and supplement the activities of various existing community groups in the Ruffy area. Its fundamental aim is to enhance the quality of life of the Ruffy community through a range of community led initiatives and projects, which are set out in the Ruffy Community Action Plan.
RCAG is made up of representatives from the existing community groups in Ruffy, but its meetings are open to any interested persons in the community. Direct community involvement in project development and implementation are seen as important prerequisites for the success of the Ruffy Community Action Plan.
RCAG receives some funding under Strathbogie Shire Council’s Community Action Group Program but it relies on a range of grants and local fundraising activities, as well as substantial volunteer effort, to bring projects to fruition. Current high priority projects supported by RCAG, and undertaken in conjunction with the relevant community groups, include:
  • Tablelands Community Centre (TCC) – the formerRuffySchool site has been acquired by the Shire of Strathbogie from the Department of Education and will be developed into a community hub that will deliver a broad range of educational and community support programs for Ruffy and the district
  • Ruffy Recreation Reserve Upgrade – developing the existing assets at the Reserve into an attractive multipurpose facility for use by the community of Ruffy and district, including enhanced facilities for horse riding events
  • Informing and Promoting Ruffy – a range of activities to better inform the Ruffy community and promote it to others, including the development of the Ruffy Community Website (to be linked to the Shire’s website)
  • Recreational and Cultural Activities – coordinating and supporting as necessary a range of events organised successfully by existing group committees (Ruffy Hall, RuffArtZ, Ruffy Art Show)
